Navan Road Club will host the Ballivor GP road race on Saturday 5th July. Sign-on will be open from 5:30pm in McLoughlins pub Ballivor, with racing due to start at 7pm. It is the usual 18km circuit, which will be covered 3 times, with the finish-line back in Ballivor outside McLoughlins pub on the main street. The circuit is mainly flat and with the race run on a handicapped basis it makes for some very fast racing.!!

2014 Summer League Race 1

navan logo yellow
Courtesy of our Sky News reporter P.J Nolan :
A famous name back at the top-John Clarke, son of Navan legend Ken Clarke and nephew of serial Ras stage winner Noel was the surprise winner of the first round of the Navan league. The relative novice took off from the limit group and got into the scratch group on the first of four circuits to win by almost a lap, actually he did an extra lap just to make sure he had won. The handicapper was unaware of the way things had progressed, thats not surprising because hes a bit thick anyway and it was only after the finish that Johns epic ride was revealed, the rest of the scratch group were complaining-as they always do-about this fella who was tearing their legs off
The event had 52 starters which was insane considering the weather was more suited to swimming and the organisers made sure everyone stood in the rain in hypothermic conditions before the race started- once they were satisfied everyone was freezing off they went into the glacial monsoon and after John Clarke headed off into the rain Derek Madden spent 2 laps chasing him before getting caught by the third of 5 groups.
After John had finished Donal Clavin had a great sprint for secod place just beating Andy Harding, Thomas McElroy was next ahead of John Fitzpatrick  with newcomer Aoife Fay just ahead of Brendan Rowe and Denise Molloy.
Ninth place is still amystery as the video died so whoever the culprit in the blue jersey is please come forward or forever lose your points. Under 16 Patrick Goszczyk was a very good tenth in the bunch sprint beating John Nolan and Nathan Lee.
 The Meath River Rescue were on stand by for the scratch group who finally came along some considerable time later.
Next Tuesday there will be more pain and bribes will be accepted at the sign on to ensure a good handicap
Simon ODEA JOYRODE in the academy cars volvo kindly donated for the Ras, actually he did a good job as lead car-at least he did not crash. Alan Heary was also seen wobbling along somewhere but he can only improve
Oh yeah thanks to all the marshals who helped it was wonderful not to get knocked down in the rain

Details of Summer League 2014

The 2014 Summer League will start on Tuesday 6th May, and will run each week until late August. It will be run in a very similar way to previous years. Sign-on from 7pm @ Halfords carpark Navan, with racing starting at 7:30pm sharp. Cost is once again 2 euro per race. All riders require the appropriate level of Cycling Ireland licence in order to compete. This must be a ‘club competition/limited competition’, or a ‘full’ racing licence. Absolutely no One-day licences will be available. Race numbers are not required, but please bring your licence to sign-on as proof of eligibility. The routes used will be the same as last year, with a mixture of flat or uphill sprint finish-lines, along with Time-trials and Hill climb races. The aim is to allow riders to gain experience of all aspects of racing.

This league is run by Navan Road Club, and is primarily for our own members. However we have always allowed members of other clubs to take part, and will continue to do so……..but this is at our discretion, and if the numbers signing-on become too much to handle we will have to restrict entries. Please do not be offended if you are unable to take part on a certain night, as Navan RC members will always be given preference over ‘other’ club riders. We aim to provide a safe and fun way for everyone to have a good nights training/racing, and introduce riders to the skills needed to take part in open races.

Marshals :

The major change this year is the introduction of enforced marshalling for all competitors. The safety of all riders is our main concern, and with the increase in numbers and in traffic, this is a step we feel we have to take. We will require 5 marshals per race, and duties will be decided on the night. Flags, high-viz bibs, signs etc will be provided by the club. Everyone who wishes to race will be required to marshal at least 1 week during the summer. A minimum points score will be awarded (5 points), so you won’t loose out.! If you can’t attend when you are scheduled to marshal, it is up to you to find a replacement.! Riders can swap between themselves and there is no problem with someone marshalling on a number of occasions…..you’ll make plenty of friends anyway.!

We have drawn-up a roster of marshals based on the final 2013 league table, starting from the top placings and working down in blocks of 5.

***Any new competitors will also be required to marshal, and will be given dates as the league progresses……

Points :

The points system will be slightly  changed this year. The minimum  score for each week will now be 5 points. This is the same as the marshalling points score, so  you won’t be loosing out when you marshal. Top points  for 1st place will remain unchanged at 25. Example of points;

1st – 25 points

2nd – 24 points

3rd – 23 points

etc…

15th – 11 points

All others riders, and marshals  – 5 points.

Scores will be added up each week and a League table will be posted asap. This will be posted on the club website and Facebook page, so keep an eye for all the latest news and results.

2014 Club Membership

Club membership fee’s for 2014 are now due ( as of 1st January ’14).

The amounts set at the AGM were ;

Adult – 25 euros

Under-age – 5 euros

Family – 40 euros

We would greatly appreciate if all club members could pay as early in the year as possible, thanks.

It has been decided to provide a regular time and location to make it easy for members to pay their fee’s on time. So, we have selected the Monday night kids club in Cannistown as a meeting point to pay membership. Look for club secretary Niall Doggett, who will be there from 7pm – 7;45pm each week ( ** for January and February ).

A membership night will be held on Wednesday 5th February to facilitate payment and any club meetings held in Jan / Feb.

*** Also agreed at the AGM was that a late penalty would be charged for anyone paying after 15th February. Any adult membership after this date will be 35euros.
